Academy of Champions member Jason Devaney from the Republic Of Ireland stunned the snooker world in Malta.
He beat the defending Under 19 European Snooker Champion Luca Brecel from Belgium in this years Under 19 European Championship in Malta.
Brecel had won all his group matches without losing a single frame but he came up against a fighting Irish man in the Last 16 round match today when the 17 year old from County Mayo won the match 4 frames to 2.
Sean Conway from Swinford in County Mayo also reached the QFinals when he beat Duane Jiones from Wales 4 frames to 1
In the Q-Final today Jason played Nick Jennings from England and lost 5 frames to 1 and Sean lost 5 frames to nil to Sam Craigie from England in the Dolmen Hotel in Malta.
I was delighted with all the players overall performances in Malta with David Cassidy and Karl Fitzpatrick reaching the Last 16 and the Last 32 rounds.
I really believes that Jason and Sean performance was a fantastic achievement for themself and for Junior Snooker in the Republic Of Ireland and they joined a special group of Juniors from Ireland who reached the Q Final of this European Championship in David Morris, T J Dowling, Robert Murphy, David Hogan and Vincent Muldoon.
The Senior Team of Robert Murphy, Phil Arnold and Rodney Goggins lost to Scotland in the Q Finals and Joe Delaney and BrendanThomas lost to Wales in the Semi finals in the Masters event while Michelle Sherwin and Tressa Keegan lost to France in the Ladies Semi Final.
